Day 3: Evora, the chapel of bones, and Algarve

We left Lisbon in the morning and passed over their famous bridge which is like a smaller version of our Golden Gate.  We also passed their large Christ statue that is reminiscent of the one in Brazil.  The one in Brazil is older, though.

We met our tour guide, Olga, in Evora and she told us that the village is on the UNESCO list.  The Roman wall behind her was from the 3rd century and the builders of the village used the Roman walls as a foundation for their buildings.  The building behind her used to be a monastery and is now a hotel.

These Roman ruins were a temple in corinthian style and are from 32 AD.

The last place we visited was the chapel of bones which was built by franciscan monks who were digging to build new structures and decided there were so many bones, they should use them to build their temple.  It symbolizes how we all end up the same and our fights over our differences are petty and meaningless.

After, we went shopping for cork, Evora's largest export. Some of us also went to enjoy a Medieval Fair.

Oh, and Miss Stamidis, Monay and Bri found a poetry vending machine!!!!!

After that, we took the bus to Algarve and had a delicious buffet and went for an after-dinner walk

On the bus, Christian and Sabrina told us jokes to keep entertained.  The best one?  What did the egg say at the party? "Om-elet"
