Day 2: Lisboa, Sintra, Cascais, and Lisboa Fado music

We started our day with a guided tour with Elexina.  She took us to the birth place of St. Anthony and said that right across the street was the church in which he was baptized.  Then, we took a walking tour to Sao Jorge Castelo, where we saw gorgeous panoramic views of the city and even had an up-close encounter with some peacocks!  Of course there were street musicians everywhere and some of us bought fresh strawberries.  We walked down the al fama neighborhood with picturesque narrow streets.  Jews and Moors used to live there and Portugal has a gorgeous blending of Judeo-Christian and Muslim art.  After that, we had lunch on the main street.

Then we went to Sintra where we saw a fort on the water and the beautiful Jeronimos monastery.  Tyler may not have found it as exciting as Miss Stamidis did, though.

After the monastery, we went to the Sintra Palace.

After that, drove along the coast of Cascais and watched the beautiful blue waves break along the jagged rocks and golden sand.  Unfortunately, we didn't have time for the beach because we had plans to see a Fado Music show.  Fado music is traditional Portuguese music and they sing with nostalgia about the glory days of Portugal when they ruled the world.

After the Fado music show, we drove back to downtown Lisboa to meet up with the other groups and go for a dinner in the marketplace

And while we were waiting for the metro, Christiana and Nate gave us a quick show.
